‘Chi Chi’ murder suspect bail reduced

SHERINE Miller, who is charged with the murder of Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) councillor Robert ‘Chi Chi’ Williams, had her bail of$500,000 reduced to $200,000 when she appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court today.

The initial bail offered in May was adjusted by Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey after Miller’s attorney, Carolyn Reid-Cameron, told the court that her client’s family was unable to afford that amount.

The accused was reportedly involved in a common-law relationship with Williams at the time of his death on May 3, when he was fatally stabbed. However, Miller’s attorney said the murder was an act of self-defence.

According to police reports, Williams and Miller were at home in Norbrook, St Andrew, when they had a dispute. Miller reportedly left the house but was followed and attacked by Williams, who was stabbed during a tussle.

Miller made a report to the Constant Spring Police Station and accompanied them to the intersection of Norbrook Road and Norbrook Mews where Williams’ body was found on the roadway.

She is to return to court on June 28.
