Fraser withdraws from comp after testing positive
WORLD and Olympic champion Shelly-Ann Fraser withdrew from the much anticipated women’s 100 metres race at the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) Diamond League meeting in Lausanne, Switzerland today after she tested positive for a prohibited substance.
Bruce James, president of the MVP Track and Field Club with whom Fraser trains, told the Observer that the club chose to pull Fraser from all athletic competition until a hearing can be held after they learnt that the athlete tested positive for painkiller ‘Oxycodone’ at the Shanghai Diamond League Meeting on May 23.
Oxycodone is named on the World Anti-Doping Agency’s 2010 Probihited Substances list as a narcotic. However, it is not classified as either a performance enhancer or a masking agent.
