“Service is the rent we pay for being here”
POPULAR Campion College educator Kevin Alcock, who died on July 31 at the age of 33, was laid to rest after a funeral mass that was packed to overflowing at Holy Cross Church in Half Way Tree last Friday.
He was well known within Roman Catholic circles in Kingston for his defence of the Roman Catholic faith. Kevin believed in giving service as witnessed by his involvement in Kiwanis.
He was fond of saying “service is the rent we pay for being here”. He was hailed as a deep faith-based Christian who was always giving service. Tributes came form the Kiwanis Club of Kingston, Grace Baston, Principal of Campion and form Noel Wilkinson who spoke on behalf of the Apologetics (Defence of the Faith) Commission.
Roman Catholic Archbishop Donald Reece celebrated the funeral mass. Archbishop Emeritus Edgerton Clarke, Fathers Donald Chambers (Pastor of Holy Cross Church) Peter McIsaac SJ (Jesuit Superior), Roger Graham and Richard Brown assisted him. The assisting deacons were John Wright, Wilbert Hemming and Desmond Gordon. In attendance was State minister in the ministry of finance Arthur Williams.
Cousin Diandra Williams read first lesson while the second lesson was read by sister- in-law Nakeisha Sewell, supervisor of the paginators at the Jamaica Observer. Kevin Alcock’s love for poetry, philosophy and writing was also highlighted. A written submission by Kevin Alcock will be published in an international Kiwanis magazine shortly.
