MoBay RM blacklists ‘professional bailer’
MONTEGO BAY, St James — A woman who attempted to bail two persons with fraudulent papers was herself offered bail when she re-appeared in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrates Court on Monday.
On a previous appearance, Acting Senior Resident Magistrate Vivienne Harris had wondered aloud whether accused woman Nickesha Gordon was “a professional bailer”.
On Monday the judge recommended that Gordon be barred from ever bailing anyone else ever again, that she be “blacklisted for life” and that the order be sent to other jurisdictions as well, “just in case.”
The 27-year-old mother of four from Tower Hill, St James has been charged with conspiracy to defraud and false declaration. She pleaded not guilty to both when she appeared in court last Friday.
The court heard that Gordon went to the Montego Bay Resident Magistrates Court on successive days in early June with documents showing she owned property, to bail accused men.
She was successful on June 1 but when she went back the following day to bail her boyfriend Mario Parkins, it was found out that the papers were fraudulent.
Attorney-at-law Martyn Thomas who appeared on behalf of the accused woman said she had given herself up to the Area One police when she heard that the police were looking for her.
He told the court in his bail application Gordon had given a caution statement without the benefit of an attorney that had also implicated others.
Thomas said his client had been “tricked by others” and said she was not a flight risk.
Gordon was offered bail in the sum of $100,000 with up to three sureties and ordered to report to the Anchovy Police once a week. She will return to court on October 7 when the case will be mentioned.
