NOTTINGHAM, England (CMC) — Veteran West Indies left-hander Shiv Chanderpaul missed out yet another hundred for Lancashire on the opening day of their County Championship clash with Nottinghamshire on Tuesday.

The left-hander, who has already scored two centuries in four matches for Lancs, stroked 92 as the visitors piled up 300 for six after winning the toss and batting first at Trent Bridge in the Division One encounter.

Chanderpaul, who missed the recent Caribbean Twenty20 Cup to play for Lancs, hammered 13 fours in an innings that lasted 171 balls and consumed a shade over three hours.

He shared a 151-run, third wicket partnership with Mark Chilton whose patient, unbeaten 61 required 191 balls and was 16 minutes short of five hours.

Openers Paul Horton (51) and Tom Smith (61) carved out half-centuries in a stand of 87 for the first wicket but Chanderpaul’s dismissal triggered a slide that saw four wickets fall for 17 runs.

Fast bowler Andre Adams has so far taken three for 68 while left-armer Ryan Sidebottom, who trapped Chanderpaul lbw, has so far snared three for 71.
