Tennis selects four for C’Wealth Games
Following trials last weekend, Jamaica’s four-member men’s table tennis team to the upcoming Commonwealth Games in India has been selected.
They are former national champion Joseph Dibbs, Simon Tomlinson, Kane Watson and Emani McPherson.
Jamaica will not be sending a women’s team to the tournament.
Tomlinson, who was a national junior representative and turns 19 years next month, jumped straight into the senior team.
In the trials, Dibbs won his nine matches for first-place finish, while Tomlinson and Watson each won seven matches and lost two. McPherson won six matches and lost three.
Preparation for the four will be staged from October 4-13 under coach Winston Cowans, who will be assisted by Sean Wallace.
The top three finishers outside the qualified four at the trials — former national champion Christopher Marsh, Don-Walker Petinaud and Kareem Flowers –will also be in the training squad and will be be replacements if that becomes necessary.
