W’House topple Cavalier for U-13 title
WATERHOUSE dethroned Cavalier FC as Claro/KSAFA Under-13 champions after coming out 3-1 winners on penalty kicks in the final at Duhaney Park on Monday.
The game was tied at 1-1 at the end of regulation and extra time.
Sheldon McKoy gave Cavalier the lead early in the second half (35th), but Andre Leslie sent the game into extra time with a goal in time added on (62nd).
Winning coach Stanley Edwards said it was a very difficult game, “but I told my team that hard work and dedication pay off… and at the end of the day, it’s the team that wants it more, and we wanted it more”, he said.
Waterhouse had the better of the first half and had the better chances, but it was Cavalier who took the lead five minutes after the break when goalkeeper Akeem Chamber mistimed a high ball in the area, thus presenting McKoy with an empty net.
McKoy and Khori Edmond came close to extending Cavalier’s lead, but Chambers did well to deny McKoy’s well-placed strike, while Edmond’s shot rattled the post before Jahbari Pinnock skied the rebound.
However, the physically smaller Waterhouse unit came storming back in the final minutes of the game and when Cavalier goalkeeper Karl Brown overstepped his 18-yard boundary with the ball in time added, Leslie rifled home the resulting free-kick into the roof of the net that sent the game into extra time.
When extra time failed to produce any further goals, Leslie, Dane Johnson and Anthoneil Mullings converted their spot kicks for Waterhouse, while only McKoy scored for Cavalier.
