Bad governance, Peter
Dear Editor,
I refer to Dr Peter Phillips saying he did nothing wrong, following the statement by PM Golding that he had signed treaty documents with the USA without the approval of the Cabinet.
I hope we are mature enough to see something wrong with any minister signing a document with another country that will affect the population without the approval of the Cabinet and also the Opposition. I see something wrong when a government sells government property or enters into agreements with other business entities (foreign or domestic) without a debate or the input of the Opposition.
Over the years this “no accountable, go-it-alone policy” has led to acts of corruption where politicians’ selfish interest takes precedence over that of the nation. One would think that under every successive government – PNP or JLP – we would see changes, righting this sorry state of affairs, but no, they are happy and collude to keep the status quo.
Changes as to how our government is run will come only if and when special interest groups organised with the people put pressure on the two gangs – PNP and JLP – to legislate needed change in government. I believe that businessman James Moss-Solomon, who resigned recently from some public sector boards, could lead the charge for change in the way that both parties govern our country.
