‘Sweaty John’ to contest rum rap
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Popular Hart Street businessman Paul ‘Sweaty John’ Williams recently vacated a guilty plea of breaches of the Excise Duty Act and will contest the charges.
In a recent appearance in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrates’ Court, Williams who had pleaded guilty earlier, told the court he was in hospital in July when police raided his home and found 42 quarts of rum.
Williams said the rum had been left there by some one along with several bottles of syrup for him to make rum punch and questioned why the police did not take the syrup as well.
As a result of the change of plea, other charges that were dismissed against Williams will be brought back against him when he returns on November 5.
