W’House rebound with 2-0 win over Arnett

WATERHOUSE rebounded from Sunday’s 0-1 loss against Boys’ Town with a 2-0 win over 10-man Arnett Gardens in a Digicel Premier League match at Drewsland on Wednesday.

With the defeat also went Arnett Gardens’ 100 per cent away record. Up to Wednesday’s matches, they were the only team to be unbeaten away from home.

Talisman striker Jermaine “Tuffy” Anderson popped between the Arnett Gardens defence for another headed goal in the 70th, while Kemar Thomas came on five minutes earlier as a second-half substitute to secure the points for Waterhouse with an 87th-minute strike.

The goal was the result of a mesmerising run that unhinged the Arnett defence and enabled the utility player to get behind goalkeeper Damion Hyatt and score.

It was the third successive headed goal from Anderson, which guided Waterhouse to their third win in their last five games.

Arnett Gardens were reduced to 10 men after Rohan Reid was expelled for his second caution 11 minutes from time.

Despite this, it was a game which Arnett could have won, had it not been for outstanding goalkeeping by Richard McCallum.

Leon Strickland, playing with much freedom and enterprise, forced his way into a shooting range and essayed a powerful right-footer to the far post which forced McCallum to go full stretch and hold on.

Early in the second session, it was Strickland who again slipped behind the Waterhouse defence to once more test the resolve of the national goalkeeper with a thunderous shot from just inside the area and from an acute angle.

But once again McCallum, with aplomb, was equal to the occasion, hurtling himself through the air like a meteor to hold onto another ‘screamer’ to his left.
