Infinity’s night out at Red Bones
Singjay Infinity declared he’s married to music but had to avoid a psycho in the process at Red Bones Blues Bar in Kingston Friday night.
It marks his second show as the headliner at live houses in Kingston over six months, following his musical hiatus.
“I never treated her right and she walked out of my life,” he sang in Save Me, about his art to clapping drums and sonic guitars. He later lyricised his return to love and a promise of loyalty.
“This is a song about my wife. I am married to music,” he said in prefacing the song.
The story is that he returned to music after receiving an epiphany whilst in Egypt. A hiatus of five years equates to an infinity in pop music and a few of his songs were 2005 resurrections. However, Infinity is still young, the song’s weren’t released and the messages remain relevant. Additionally, he is backed by respected musicians including Andre ‘Pregs’ Thompson, who is the drummer for platinum selling deejay Sean Paul, Wayne McGregor — guitarist/lawyer for multiple bands, Spider — bassist for local rock band Robot Taxi, Samuel on guitar, Alex and Andrew on keyboards and an unnamed back-up singer.
The fusion between the singjay and the rock band at times drowned Infinity in torrents of guitar distortion and raining drum cymbals. “Low, low, low” he would request. The band would relent slightly but perhaps his own volume pedal (similar to guitarists) or more active volume manipulation via the engineer would would have sufficiently rectified his requests.
The 45-minute set contained original material except covers by Damian and Stephen Marley and a Michael Jackson adaptation of Human Nature.
He closed with his planned radio single Psycho which warned fans of his stalker girlfriend. “Everyone think this girl is so nice but she’s a psycho….I can’t get on with my life because she won’t let me go,” he sang.
Interestingly, during his first song Better Must Come which spoke of hope, Storm Saulter, director of the unrelated just released movie Better Mus’ Come, entered the venue and cheered at the symbolism.
The evening began with Andrew McIntyre, guitarist for the Wailers and Sean Paul, performing originals and covers.
Infinity also quit music in 2005 having been shepherded by known reggae producer Phillip ‘Fattis’ Burrell from the Xterminator label. His single was produced by drummer Andrew ‘Pregs’ Thompson. Infinity born Daniel Edwards is also an insurance manager at Sagicor.
