JUTC crash driver offered bail
OCHO RIOS, St Ann – Jeremy Stewart, the driver of the Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) bus, which plunged into a precipice in St Ann on October 15, killing 16-year-old Jodian Henry has been offered bail.
Stewart was offered bail in the sum $600,000 with one or two sureties when he appeared before Resident Magistrate Carolyn Tie in the St Ann’s Bay Resident Magistrate court earlier today.
Stewart has been charged with motor vehicle manslaughter.
As a condition of his bail, he was ordered to surrender his travel documents and a stop order has been imposed.
He was also ordered to report to the Duhaney Park police in St Andrew daily between 7:00 am and 7:00 pm.
Stewart is to return to court on November 19.
Stewart was reportedly driving the JUTC bus when it plunged into the precipice at Faith’s Pen.
About 40 persons who were among a church group heading to Moneague College in St Ann for a church function were also injured.
After the incident, the JUTC said Stewart had a poor driving record with the bus company and was not authorised to drive the vehicle.
