Brushy: still strums his one string

WHEN it comes to manipulating the lone string on his guitar it is pure magic to see Brushy One String in action. He totally charmed the Digicel Rising Star fans in 2006, so much so that he made it as a finalist in the competition that was eventually won by One Third.

Since then precious little has been seen or heard from this talented individual.

Speaking with the Sunday Observer on his noticeable absence on the scene, Brushy One String quipped, “If I can’t do it for myself, I would rather do it for someone I respect,” referring to the man who managed to “draw him out from underground,” Argentinian-born, Los Angeles-based filmmaker Luciano Blotta.

“I was introduce to the documentary RiseUp by Luciano. I went over to see him and started playing some music. He listened and liked what he heard,” recalled Brushy.

When he was asked to be a part of the documentary, Brushy didn’t have to think twice.

Speaking about his role in RiseUp, Brushy One String is encouraging his fans to make sure they see it as it’s now showing on the Palace Amusement Company circuit of cinemas.

“For all my fans, they should go and see the documentary and let me get their opinions — good or bad cause I’m just not gonna stop,” he promised.

In RiseUp, Andrew Chin aka Brushy One String gives contagious musical performances. ‘The King of One String’ chronicles Brushy from a place where he is revered by both young and old, but where success has eluded him. Brushy ‘soothes souls and rough hearts’ with a bright smile and one string as he continues to try to rise from the Jamaican underground.

Now that he has completed the RiseUp project, Brushy says he will be heading to the studio to work on tracks for a long overdue album, but he says the album won’t be ready just yet.

“For my fans who are asking for records — no new song right now. I will be doing a remix of Chicken in the Corn,” he informed, adding that they should definitely listen out for this one.

Brushy One String over the years has recorded songs such as Raising my Blues, Boom Bang Beng, San Gal Gone, Mangoes, Walking Dreamer among others.
