Walker Cup hopefuls clash in semis
JAMAICA College (JC) continue the defence of their Walker Cup KO title this afternoon when they face Norman Manley High in the opening game of the Corporate Area schoolboy semi-finals at 12:45 pm at the Prison Oval.
In the second game at 2:45, Bridgeport take on Eltham in a St Catherine ‘derby’.
JC defeated high-flying St George’s College to book their place in today’s final four, and the Alfred Henry-coached boys must be oozing confidence after ousting the defending Manning Cup champions for the second consecutive season.
The Old Hope Road school will be looking to the diminutive Ashani Walker to spearhead their atttack and he should be ably assisted by the likes of Nicholos Scott, Theo Campbell, Andre Messam, Shamar Thomas and Odane Greensword.
However, Norman Manley are no pushovers, as they topped Group D comfortably despite tough competition from St Andrew Technical and Penwood.
The Miguel Coley-coached team is a talented, hard-running side that will definitely pose problems for the opposition.
Dean Phillips and Kimani Henry will lead the attack, along with Chavar Valentine, Lamar Thompson, Jamal Hamilton and Neica Reynolds.
The second game between Bridgeport and Eltham will be a game with two contrasting styles. The Anthony Patrick-coached Bridgeport play a passing possession game, compared to the Gregory Allen-coached Eltham, who have a more direct approach.
Patrick believes this will be a very keen contest, but is hoping his team can open up the tough Eltham defence with their passing and movement.
Jameel Hardward will be the man pulling the strings for Bridgeport, with support expected from Kemar Phillpot, Ramone Hall, Mcaguyver Schliffer, Houdain Whyte and Jay Lindsay.
Eltham’s impeccable Manning Cup record this season has been the envy of many. However, Allen knows that that matters little and it’s who turns up on the day.
The Spanish Town-based institution already has a Walker Cup title and based on their performances this season, are one of the teams to beat.
