Colour Me High Fashion!

ESTABLISHING the best talent agency on the island was wishful thinking a decade ago for former banker Deiwght Peters. Today, while Peters might not have found success in the area of musical talent, the modelling side, where he has changed lives and expanded horizons, is the stuff of fairy tales.

Saint International is today a formidable force in the global fashion industry with leggy ladies boldy taking to the catwalks each season for top designers like Jil Sander, Calvin Klein, Vivienne Westwood, Diane Von Furstenberg, Rachel Roy, Marc Jacobs, Lacoste, Thakoon and Naeem Khan. Saint is too, by Peters’ estimation, the single largest provider of black models on the world’s runways.

Little surprise, therefore, that the mood was decidedly upbeat Thursday last at the two-part event, dubbed Colour Me High Fashion, with lots of smooching in between sips of Moet & Chandon and salutations from JAMPRO president Sancia Templer. The event staged at the Devonshire, Devon House, gave Peters the opportunity in front of members of diplomatic corps, the business community, friends and family, to honour the ‘runway achievements’ and unveil a photo exhibit of the season’s top models — Shena Moulton, Ashane Rose, Raschelle Osbourne and Ornelia Edwards.

“We’re celebrating a milestone for Saint International — with approximately 11 models walking the catwalks of the fashion capitals of the world this season alone,” boasted Peters. “Saint was the single largest provider of black models on the catwalks, which is pretty remarkable. And the fact that we were joined by many of the leading luxury lifestyle brands, notably BMW, Scotia A Advantage Visa Card and Moet Chandon, along with Island Grill, Soft Sheen Carson and Juici Patties, is an even stronger testimony to the power of this Jamaican brand. I am extremely proud of the incredible human stories behind the models whose international successes are celebrated this evening. They are ordinary young Jamaicans leading extraordinary lives; this is our core philosophy”. No idle boast! They too are creating their own possibilities.
