Chuckle Berry’s So Bad hits the Top 11 @ 11 chart in Toronto

Catch Di Riddim

A year after he struck pay dirt with the hit Good Life, singjay Chuckle Berry has scored another hit. One of his most recent singles So Bad has scaled the number three spot on Toronto radio station CKLN 88.1 FM’s Top 11 @ 11 chart.

The chart success comes on the heels of news that One Pop, a various artistes compilation by Sly and Robbie has been nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Reggae Recording.

Both Good Life and another recording by Chuckle Berry, Johnny B Goode, are featured on the One Pop compilation.

In a recent interview, Chuckle Berry who is currently on a promotional tour of Canada, said he feels blessed to be a part of a Grammy nominated compilation. “To be able to work with Sly and Robbie has been a high point in my career, and it’s truly a blessing to have two songs on One Pop. Sly and Robbie are two of the greatest musicians and producers in the whole world. I hope they win the Grammy because they deserve it for all the hard work they have put in over the years, they have done a lot for Jamaican music worldwide,” said Chuckle Berry.

Chuckle Berry is looking forward to the release of his debut album which is being produced by Sly and Robbie.

The stage is now set for the first concert on local shores to take place this Friday, December 10 at Skateland, Linstead, St Catherine.

Among those scheduled to perform at Beenie Man, TOK, Ding Dong, Macka Diamond, Voice Mail, Ghost, Rich Kid, Blacker, Donna Makeda, Lady Shelly, Shaka Pow, Big G, Chatta, Villa Dutch, Mz Miniray, Diamond and Tugie T.

Smirnoff Daydreams for Caymanas Estates

THE popular Daydreams party is set for Caymanas Estates Sunday, December 19. This is the first time that the six-year-old series will be held within the Corporate Area.

According to PJ Wright of Wright Image Entertainment, the move to Caymanas Estates was to incorporate more patrons to enjoy the event.

Said Wright “This is the first time that we are going to Caymanas Estates and the first time we are having an execution like this. It’s a bigger venue, a lower price and we have also reunited with our major sponsor Smirnoff.”

First staged in 2004, Daydreams has to date been held on 20 occasions. The party has been held in Miami, Ocho Rios, Negril and Solaris Estate in St Thomas.

Asked what has kept the Daydreams brand alive over the six years, Wright said “Our loyal supporters have helped to keep the brand sustainable. This is a brand that people consistently support.”

One of the most popular ultra all inclusive parties, Daydreams was conceptualised by Wright and his team.

“We were trying to figure out the best name for a day party and the venue Solaris Estate has a very good view and an overall dreamy look. So that’s how the name Daydreams came about,” Wright explained.

Jazzy T from Renaissance Disco, Coppershot, ZJ Liquid and Dutty Dex from Miami have been given the responsibility of keeping patrons entertained musically.

Susan Boyle’s The Gift derails the Black Eyed Peas

MOVING an additional 272,000 copies within the past week, The Gift by Susan Boyle enjoys a third week in the number one spot on the Billboard 200 albums chart.

Boyle’s tenure in the top spot dashed any hopes by the Black Eyed Peas for an assault on the number one spot. The group had to settle for a number six debut with The Beginning which moved 119,000 copies in its full week at retail.

Ironically, the group’s last album The END. blasted to the number one spot on the album chart in 2009 with an opening week burst of 304,000 units.

The Beginning is led by the first single The Time (Dirty Bit) which samples the Jennifer Warnes and Bill Medley 1980’s dusty old nugget, I’ve Had the time of My Life which was featured in the Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey classic, Dirty Dancing.

With three consecutive number one singles, Katy Perry is the Hot 100 champ

Katy Perry is the Billboard Hot 100 champ this week, as her latest single Firework blazes at the top of the chart. This is the pop singer’s third consecutive number one single from her most recent album Teenage Dream, which recently picked up a Grammy nomination for Album of the Year.

Perry’s previous chart toppers from the album were California Gurls featuring Snoop Dogg and the title track Teenage Dream. She is the first female artiste in 11 years to clock three straight number one singles from an album.

The last female artiste to achieve this feat was Monica, when The Boy is Mine, the First Night and Angel of Mine all each unpacked their travelling bags between 1998 and 1999.

Perry’s Hot 100 chart toppers have now increased to four. Her first number one was I Kissed a Girl from the summer of 2008.

Elsewhere on the Hot 100 this week, Rihanna moves 5 to 3 with What’s My Name, while last week’s number track Raise Your Glass by Pink slips to number two.
