UWI awards long-serving staff members
THE University of the West Indies recently awarded 129 staff members for their service to institution, ranging from 15 to 40 years.
Topping the list of individuals recognised were Beverley Blair-Morris, Beverly Easy and Fredrick Hemmings, who have each served 40 years with the university.
“Forty years is really a lifetime. I feel very elated and honoured for being thought of by the university,” Blair-Morris, told Career & Education following the ceremony, held at the Mona Vistors’ Lodge on December 9.
“It has been a pleasure working at the institution and I know my colleagues being awarded feel the same,” added the woman, who works as an administrator at the UWI’s main library.
Hemmings, who has been working in the bursary’s office since joining the institution, noted that the warm experiences gained, will forever be treasured.
Other members of staff were recognised for service to the UWI for 30, 21 and 15 years.
Those recognised for their 30-year service included:
* Karl Aiken, Department of Life Sciences;
* Blossom Anglin-Brown, University Health Services;
* Brendan Brain, Community Health/UWI HIV/AIDS Response Programme;
* David Baker, Department of Geograpy and Geology;
* Carol Baugh-Rowe, Department of Pathology;
* Meltonian Blake, CARIMAC;
* Ashley Clarke, Busary Stores Inventory;
* Carolyn Cooper, Department of Literatures in English;
* George Cowie, Department of Microbiology;
* Hubert Devonish, Department of Language, Linguistics & Philosophy;
* Carroll Edwards, Office of the Campus Registrar;
* Kerith Golden, Department of Basic Medical Sciences;
* Joy Holness, Department of Community Health and Psychiatry;
* Newton Lewis, Estate Management Department;
* Horace Stamp, Registry Records Office; and
* Winston Williams, Department of Medicine.
* Fifty-seven members of staff were awarded for 21 years of service while 53 were recognised for 15 years of service.
