Special holiday screenings for Better Mus’ Come
THE Storm Saulter-directed film Better Mus’ Come and Palace Amusement are having a special treat for fans of the movie this holiday. It’s no secret that since the film’s opening in October, Better Mus’Come has been recognised as heralding a new era in Jamaican filmmaking.
Carib 5 which hosted the premiere of the movie will be hosting two days of Special Screenings extending the regular movie times to accommodate this Christmas gift. On Sunday, December 26 and Monday, December 27, Palace Amusement welcomes fans of Better Mus’ Come — those who missed it and those who want to see it again — for special 10:00 pm viewings on each night.
The film has attracted so much interest, that one person has seen it at least 15 times during the six weeks it was in theaters. A commanding socio-political account of Jamaica, intertwined with romance and camaraderie, Better Mus’ Come will definitely capture the hearts and minds in various ways for people from all walks of life.
Storm, in explaining his inspiration for writing the film, said that he was always interested in the Cold War and its impact on Caribbean nations. Better Mus’ Come gives insight into Jamaica’s political climate during the 70s, showing the relationships between the two major political parties and the street gangs aligned with them. The mood of the film is somewhat reflective of various aspects of modern day politics in Jamaica.
