We need more fiction writers
Dear Editor,
As an avid reader of Caribbean literature, I’ve noticed that Jamaica is coming up a little short in its output. Sure, you have Anthony Winkler, Colin Channer, Kwame Dawes and Marlon James, but who else is there really challenging the rest of the Caribbean’s greats?
Where is Jamaica’s answer to Earl Lovelace? Or how about some women contenders to give Oonya Kempadoo and Marie-elana John a run for their money. If my question was directed at the music output of this country there’d be no issue.
This letter is not meant to undermine or devalue any of the authors mentioned, but simply bring attention to the need for more Jamaican writers of fiction to document the cultural nuances of this land we love.
