Party promoters join forces
When you think of some of the top events in Jamaica such as Osmosis, Beach Bums, Alist, Yush, and past hits such as Special Delivery, you automatically think quality and attention to detail.
Now imagine that select promoters from these events have combined their efforts for one night of entertainment. That’s right, Philip Palmer, Garth Walker, Deane Shepherd, Jermaine Brown, Greg Christian, Carlos Phillpotts and Pierre Goubault, are set to combine forces for the second staging of the New Year’s Eve edition of Smirnoff Xclusive. Dubbed Luminaries, this event is set to illuminate Kingston nightlife on December 31. Headlined by Smirnoff Vodka, Luminaries will set out to achieve what has never been possible which is to create that single “it party”.
According to Pierre Goubault, “Over the years the New Year’s Eve party scene has been fragmented, with close groups of friends being pulled in various directions because of the plethora of events being held. By joining forces, we believe our team has the resources and the influence to pull all of these groups together”. Goubault explains that a key factor in the decision of where to go on New Year’s Eve, is where your friends are going. “So if we create that environment where people know all their friends will be, then we have a winning event.”
The team promises a quaint yet sophisticated event, on the lush lawns of 3 Cherry Gardens Drive. Again the choice of venue is no accident notes Greg Christian, “We selected a venue that we believed our patrons would feel was not too commercial; but rather one that creates a homely, neighbourhood vibe, conducive to dancing and having fun.”
Shea Stewart, executive chef of catering outfit Elite Kreations who will deliver the succulent New Year’s Eve menu, promises that patrons will experience a feast beyond their wildest imaginations. “We will be preparing a range of dishes that will be in keeping with the premium ambiance which is Smirnoff Xclusive; while at the same time will showcase the diversity of the Elite Kreations team.”
Marsha Lumley, brand manager of Smirnoff Vodka, title sponsors of the event adds “New Year’s Eve is about celebrating the year that has passed and celebrating what is to come with your closest friends. Smirnoff as a brand has delivered some exciting consumer experiences in 2010 with our sponsorships, drink mixes, event execution and advertising, and we see this as the culmination of another great year with the Jamaican consumer.”
Garth Walker was quick to point out however that the event has a strict dress code which will be enforced. “This is not a t-shirt party, this is a sophisticated event, and we therefore expect our patrons to dress accordingly,” quipped Walker.
