Mountainside eye St Bess midseason final
MIKENA Brown scored two goals to help Mountainside FC stayed on course for the midseason final with a 2-1 win over bottom-placed Burnt Ground Police Youth Club, while Young Brazil picked up their first win in the St Elizabeth Wray and Nephew Major League on Sunday.
Young Brazil, who lost their last two games by wide margins, beat Brae’s River 3-1 at Brae’s River, while Black River Youth Club outscored New Holland FC 3-2 at New Holland.
Brown scored in the 42nd and 63rd minute for Mountainside, while Aldane Folks got the consolation for Burnt Ground in the 46th minute in an evenly contested game at the Santa Cruz Community Centre.
Mountainside dominated the first half, but Burnt Ground, who lost three games and drew one and who are at the bottom of the table, came back forcefully in the second half and dominated play, which resulted in the equaliser.
The win puts Mountainside back at top of the league on 13 points. They are followed previous leaders Super Action, who scored the biggest margin of win in the competition to date — a 9-1 thrashing of Vineyard before the Christmas break — to be second on 10 points.
They are followed by Black River, also on 10 points from three wins. Appleton Estates are in fourth position with seven points, followed by Braes River and Vineyard both on six points. The competition continued today with three matches..
