Seba, Wadadah inch closer to midseason final
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Leaders Seba United and Wadadah edged towards a meeting in the midseason final of the Captain’s Bakery and Grill Western Confederation Super League with wins on Sunday.
Seba stayed a point in front after edging Mt Pelier 1-0, while Wadadah kept pace after beating short-handed Russia 2-0.
Seba lead with 23 points and need only a draw at Cousin’s Cove tomorrow to secure a place in the January 23 play-off, while Wadadah are on 22 points, five more than Frome FC who have a game in hand and are the only other team that can qualify for the play-off.
On Sunday, Jermie Bucknor snapped his scoring drought in the Super League, netting his fifth of the season in the 45th minute for Seba.
At the UDC field, Curtis Palmer scored his 10th goal of the season to join Seba’s Kemar James at the top of the charts, heading past Russia’s Ricardo Fuller in the 40th minute, while Damion Reid scored form close range from a corner in the 65th minute.
Russia, who battled for the entire game, arrived at the venue with just 12 players.
Third-place Frome FC were held 0-0 by Catherine Hall at home and are still to beat the St James club at this level.
Teofore Bennett scored the winner for Harmony on his debut against Cousin’s Cove after transferring from Premier League club Village United.
Harmony won 1-0 to leap three places to sixth on 12 points, extending their unbeaten run to three games.
Former champions Granville also have a three-game unbeaten run after earning a 2-2 draw against Bamboo.
The inform Garth Johnson gave the St James club the lead in the 10th minute for his ninth of the season, but Nathan Lee scored twice to give the home team the lead.
Lee equalised in the 23rd before giving Bamboo the lead in the 53rd minute. Andrew Allen, however, salvaged a point for Granville when he netted in the 82nd minute.
In the other game, relegation threatened Exidos held Tomorrow’s People to a 0-0 draw at Bickersteth.
