MIAMI, Florida – As the buzz around the Before The Dawn – Buju Banton and Friends concert gains momentum, persons who did not purchase their tickets up to yesterday are worried that they will not be able to witness the much talked about event which is slated to get underway later today.

The concert will be held at the Bay Front Park Amphitheatre in downtown Miami, starting at 4:00 pm.

Violet Bennett, a Jamaican who resides in West Palm Beach, expressed worry that she may not be able to attend the concert as tickets were hard to come by.

“I have been a fan of Buju ever since he burst on the scene. I went through his ordeal with him and prayed for him for the entire length of his incarceration. I would love to go to the show but there seems to be no tickets available in West Palm Beach,” Bennett told the Observer.

The city of West Palm Beach is part of the Palm Beach County which is more than 100 miles away from downtown Miami.

In Fort Lauderdale, a city with a heavy Jamaican and Caribbean population, tickets were equally hard to come by. Only one venue in that city was reported to be selling tickets but a check at the store revealed that they had been sold out.

“This can’t be. I don’t know what I will do if I can’t get to witness this historic event. I am going inside the venue by hook or by crook,” Dorrett Williams, a Jamaican who lives in Margate, said.

However, checks with the media accreditation department for the promoters, Rockers Island, Bujulive media, said tickets could still be purchased online or would be sold at the box office beginning at 10 this morning.

The venue reportedly holds 1500 patrons.

The concert will feature Buju Banton, Wayne Wonder, Freddy McGregor, Nadine Sutherland and Everton Blender.

It will be Banton’s last live performance before he returns to a US federal court to face a jury of his peers on drug and firearm charges.

A first trial in September ended in a mistrial after a 12 member jury failed to come up with a unanimous decision as to his innocence or guilt.

He was arrested at his South Florida home hours after his co-defendants, James Mack and Ian Thomas, were held in a police controlled warehouse attempting to purchase drugs from federal agents in Tampa, Florida.

He was jailed for 11 months before being granted bail in December and being placed under house arrest.
