Jamaicans eye career advancement in 2011
IT’S a new year and with it has come the opportunity to live long-held career dreams.
From all indications, many Jamaicans are all set to do just that or are at least resolved to doing so.
Career & Education reporter Kimmo Matthews took to the streets this past week, asking Jamaicans: “How do you plan on realising career advancement in 2011?”
Dianna Francis, sales rep:
“My aim is to be more aggressive in reaching my goals, which will include furthering my education to make myself more marketable in the ever-changing working world.”
Clinton Matthews, supermarket packer:
“Working harder (and) investing more to educate and upgrade my skills.”
Clayon Gray, supermarket packer:
“Placing more time and energy into what I do so that my skills may be highlighted, hence making me more marketable.”
Nerrissa Cross, sales manager:
“Better time management. This will have to be in both studies and other aspects of my life, as more time will have to be spent on studies.”
Omar McKoy, postpaid billing support manager:
“Ultimately, my goal is to gain a position of greater responsibility in management for continued growth at Digicel. My 2011 career advancement will therefore start with me completing my MBA, (which is) one of my primary objectives as it will help me to hone my managerial skills and improve my working knowledge of the business”.
Nastasia Adjumul, cashier:
“Investing more in education is certainly at the front of my plans for 2011.”
