THE items in the photograph are significant to me in my role as Director of Tourism. I travel with my BlackBerry wherever I go, as I must always be available and accessible, both to my team and to the travel trade. When a tour operator or airline partner needs urgent information which can affect the movement of visitors to the island, they have to be able to reach me.
The golf ball and glove represent a lucrative market for Jamaica, which we are pursuing assiduously. If we are able to grow this market segment, Jamaica will benefit tremendously.
The Travel Agent magazine is one of the most respected travel trade publications. The fact that Jamaica was able to secure a cover story in this magazine is a testament to the work we are doing, and will help to get more agents to sell the destination.
In this business, it is always important to have the endorsement of those to whom we offer service. The award from the American Academy of Hospitality Sciences shows that Jamaica is recognised internationally for quality service to our visitors and partners.
The globe represents the worldwide opportunities that are available to Destination Jamaica. It is part of my job to seek out those opportunities — literally taking Jamaica to the world!
