Holland High cop U-16 basketball title
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Holland High school from Trelawny won their first ever ISSA sports title yesterday after beating Rhodes Hall High of Hanover 38-33 in the third and decisive game of the ISSA/KFC Western Conference Under-16 basketball title at the Montego Bay Cricket Club.
After losing the first game by two points (44-46) last Tuesday, Holland bounced back to win the next two games, game two 55-36 and yesterday’s.
They were deserved winners as they dominated Rhodes Hall throughout the series with Clifton Shettleworth and Okarie Edwards leading the way.
They got off to a good start yesterday and were up by double digits at one point in the third quarter in a game that was affected by rain, especially in the second half.
A fourth-quarter run by Rhodes Hall made the scores closer, but Holland held their composure to run out victors.
Holland led at all the intervals, 11-6 after the first, 23-16 at half-time, and 34-24 at the end of the third.
Shettleworth was Holland’s top scorer with 18 points, Kenrick Lindo scored nine points and had 18 rebounds, while Edwards scored seven points as well as 16 rebounds, seven steals and seven assists.
Leon Moncrieffe also scoffed 18 points for Rhodes Hall, while Ewan Symester scored 10 points.
Both teams will advance to the national play-offs along with Under-19 finalists Cornwall College and Manning’s School.
