Smith, Henry dominate Western Conference awards
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Christopher Ray Smith of Under-19 champions Cornwall College and Daniel Henry of Herbert Morrison’s Under-16 team dominated Monday’s awards ceremony of the ISSA/KFC Western Conference basketball league at the Montego Bay Cricket Club.
Both were also voted Most Valuable Players (MVP) in their respective sections.
Smith, who led Cornwall to the title, beating Mannings School 2-0 in the best-of-three finals with triple-doubles in both games, won five awards and shared one, while Henry won five awards.
Holland High won the Under-16 title, their first ever in ISSA competition, beating fellow first-time finalists Rhodes Hall, 3-2, after taking Monday’s deciding game, 38-33.
Cornwall were third and Muschett High fourth in the Under-16 section, while Herbert Morrison were third in the Under-19s.
Smith was the top scorer with 351 points; top rebounder with 175; most blocked shots-81; most three pointers-10 and shared the award for most free throws with Herbert Morrison’s Jamoi Richards with 30 each.
The other awards — most assists — went to Cornwall’s Tevin Brown with 69, while most steals went to Richards with 67.
Henry was the Under-16s’ top scorer with 184; top free thrower with 23, top steals with 68 and most three pointers.
Holland High’s Okarie Edwards had most rebounds — 149; Cornwall’s Romaine Hinds had most assists with 44, while Spot Valley High’s Delton Clarke had most blocks shots with 36.
