JaRIA launches Reggae Month
THE Jamaica Reggae Industry Association (JaRIA) this morning unveiled plans for the observation of Reggae Month — February.
Activities during the month include the staging of the annual Dennis Brown concert; the launch of the Save the Music Campaign, a series of weekly concerts to be staged at the Edna Manley College and the JaRIA Honour Awards.
Speaking at the launch, culture minister Olivia ‘Babsy” Grange encouraged all the players in the local music industry to adapt to meet the challenges of the global economy.
“The business has changed, therefore we can no longer ‘;hug up’ what we have without knowing how to manage it and expect to get satisfactory results” she warned. “We have to step up our game, we, including government must be committed to make it happen for our music and economy.”
Grange also announced that in keeping with government’s commitment, interim arrangements have been put into place allowing persons a window to appeal for extensions to the closing time for events under the Noise Abatement Act.
