Chinese culture on show at Courtleigh Auditorium

The culture of the orient will be on show at the Courtleigh Auditorium in St Andrew this evening.

The Confucius Institute at the University of the West Indies hosts the Beijing Language University Arts Troupe in an evening dubbed Rhythmic Colours of China.

The evening, will be under the patronage of former prime minister PJ Patterson, and will feature a song and dance show, as well as a special discussion segment featuring renowned chinese film director, Xie Fei, who will speak on his film Girl from Hunan.

The award-winning film has picked up a number of accolades including the Don Quixote Award in Spain and the Golden Panda Award from the Montpelier Film Festival in France, both in 1988. It also was on show at the celebrated Cannes Film Festive in the south of France and received the Humanitarian Award in the homeland of the director, China, in 1993.

This evening’s event forms part of the efforts of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Jamaica to promote Chinese culture.
