Extraordinary teacher and motivator
Dear Editor,
Once again the mystery that is death has robbed life of a good human being. The news of Pat Roxborough-Wright’s passing brings nothing but deep sadness. Indeed, the media industry has lost a strong advocate for truth, a shining beacon of professionalism, and a passionate embracer of innovation. A committed musician and friend is gone from the theatre fraternity. But in her passing, education has lost as well, and certainly the Caribbean Institute of Media and Communication has lost a brilliant mind and excellent lecturer.
Pat was an extraordinary teacher and motivator to her students – always finding new, interesting, and effective ways to make pedagogy effective and as transformative as it should. She was never parsimonious with her deep wealth of knowledge and immensely wide-reaching experience as a journalist and media practitioner. Neither was Mrs Roxborough-Wright tight-fisted with her humanity. The Carimac students at the UWI, Mona – Western Jamaica Campus, where she taught media ethics and legal issues, have surely lost an extraordinary role model shining in the west.
On behalf of Carimac I wish to extend condolence to her son, husband and family and wish for them the strength and passion for life of which Pat had such abundance.
