Watson is facing manslaughter charges after she left her twin babies at home in the early hours of the morning to buy food. When she returned a raging fire had engulfed the residence.
Police said the charred remains of the children were found hours after residents and firefighters managed to extinguish the flames. The door to the room in which two-year-olds Shanoy and Latoya Waul were found was padlocked from the outside.
Watson was then taken into custody by the police.
Senior Magistrate Judith Pusey, remanded the defendant in custody after the allegations were read out to her. Watson seemed deflated by the magistrate’s ruling and collapsed as she was being led back to the holding area by police.
She lay motionless for a few minutes before she was revived and assisted out of court by police.
Watson was ordered to return to court on Friday.
