Great performances expected at Live on the Waterfront
Coca Cola’s Live on the Waterfront’s Reggae Night on April 23 is truly taking shape.
The second night of the four-day reggae festival to be held at Pier One in Montego Bay, is set to feature acts including Tarrus Riley, Queen Ifrica, Tony Rebel, General Trees and others that are sure to give patrons their money’s worth. “There is going to be a high level of consciousness,” said Charlie Chaplin, one of the promoters and who will also be performing on the night. “This show will present a platform for them to give good, solid performances. Everybody is feeling good about it.”
“Tarrus Riley is a man who we look up to, Queen Ifrica is hot right now and then there is me, Jose and Briggy, it’s a long time Jamaicans no see that,” Chaplin said. In fact it’s been four years since Jamaicans saw the trio of legendary entertainers on stage together, at Stars ‘R’ Us at Mas Camp. However, don’t expect them to be rusty as they performed together as recently as four months ago at the Garrange Festival in France where they were booked to perform on only one night. They were so well received they were asked to perform on the closing night of the festival as well.
Chaplin says he enjoys those moments when he gets to perform with his peers who helped set the foundation for today’s entertainers. “The feeling is always good,” he explains. “We help set the foundation for people like Shabba, Super Cat and Shaggy and we are proud of that. These new ones now just need to understand that the music is bigger than all of us and they just need to set it right.”
Several other acts on the night are expected to be stand outs. Etana, Spanner Banner, Iley Dread and IyahBlaze are also expected to bring it on a night when all the entertainers are seasoned performers in their own right. For Chaplin, however, he is personally looking forward to a number of them. “Josey Wales and Briggy, General Trees, Michael Buckley and Ugo Barrington because dem know the real ting,” he said laughing.
He is also expecting big things from Tony Rebel whose social commentary over the years is considered by many to be on point with songs like Sweet Jamaica, Nazarene Vow, Another Bill Again, and his latest, I Can’t Recall.
Chaplin says he has heard the song that parodies the recently concluded Mannatt/Dudus Enquiry and he hopes Rebel chooses to perform it on the night of April 23. “He will have to perform it. I am looking forward to him performing it because the song is hot,” Chaplin concluded with a hearty laugh.
