Destra to heat up beach j’ouvert
This Saturday, James Bond Beach in Oracabessa in St Mary is expected to be taken over by thousands of soca lovers at the Smirnoff Beach J’Ouvert fete.
Speaking at the launch of the event last Thursday at Barbican Beach in St Andrew, brand manager for Smirnoff, Marsha Lumley noted that the brand would be adding its own unique flavour to the colourful carnival event.
“It’s carnival time and nothing complements soca music better than a Smirnoff cocktail,” said Lumley. “Just as paint and adrenalin-pumping performances are a common theme of j’ouvert, so too is Smirnoff vodka.”
Smirnoff Beach J’Ouvert falls under the ‘Once Upon a Dynasty’ theme and will boast the indomitable soca diva, Destra Garcia. The event begins at 1:00 pm and will also feature DJ Bambino, Kurt Riley, Sparkles Disco, Private Ryan from Trinidad and DJ Smoke from Renaissance.
Smirnoff has also been engaging consumers through social media, with its Smirnoff Jamaica Facebook page a constant hotspot for giveaways and product information.
“A limited number of tickets for the Easter Weekend are available on our Smirnoff Jamaica Facebook page so we encourage persons to ‘like’ the page and join the Smirnoff community,” said Lumley.
The Bacchanal listing continues with Bacchanal Tuesday on April 26, Soca at De Sandbar on April 27, Bacchanal J’ouvert with Bunji Garlin and Faye-Ann Lyons on April 29, climaxing with the Bacchanal Road March on May 1. (Photos: Joseph Wellington)
