Ikaya caps a successful stint on RETV School Tour

Set to drop new singles

RISING singer and deejay Ikaya recently wrapped up a successful stint on the popular RETV School Tour. It was her third stint and she described the experience as phenomenal.

“The tour was different for me this time around because I got to reach out to different schools, as well as to perform a different set of songs. One thing that remained the same though was the response from the students. It was great,” an excited Ikaya said in a recent interview.

“My latest singles are based on reality and I went to a deeper place with These Tears. To find those lyrics even though it’s a part of what’s going on, I had to try to bring it out in a way that my audience could relate to,” Ikaya explained.

However, she said the other single High With You, was for a more mature audience. “Setting the mood for your significant other and letting him know how much you’re in need of his touch. That’s basically what the song is about,” she said.

On Easter Monday she will be in action at the Portmore Seafood Festival. Said Ikaya, “I just did a benefit concert for Japan which I was happy to be a part of and, of course, we have other performances in the pipeline.”

Apart from the aforementioned recordings, Ikaya recently completed recordings with producers Tarik ‘Russian’ Johnston, Sean ‘Seanizzle’ Reid, and DJ Wayne. She also recorded for the Outaroad label.

Unicorn and Lazer Steps combine on Good Body Gyal

Dancehall artiste and songwriter Unicorn has a knack for creating hits for a number of artistes. Having penned songs for the likes of Macka Diamond, Bounty Killer, Spragga Benz and radio personality turned artiste DJ Sunshine, Unicorn last scored a major hit with Think Bout Me which featured Macka Diamond.

He recently teamed up with Lazer Steps for the recording Good Body Gyal, which is reportedly gaining some momentum among dancehall fans.

LMFAO laughing all the way to the bank with Party Rock Anthem

Their relative, the legendary Berry Gordy scored a long list of hits with songs from his Motown label from the 1960s straight into the 1990s. The American electro hop duo LMFAO, which comprises Stefan Kendal Gordy and Skylar Gordy, hope to repeat similar success.

The duo’s smash hit Party Rock Anthem has emerged a hit outside of America, where it has cleaned up on several European charts including the UK Pop singles chart, where it took over the number one spot on the weekend.

The members of LMFAO are the son and grandson respectively of the Motown label founder. Their first single I’m In Miami was released in 2008 and only managed to peak at number 51 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Much of their music incorporates a theme of partying and drinking, and the group commonly refers to their music style as “party rock”.

Andru Anthony promoting new single Move On With My Life

Newcomer Andru Anthony has been promoting his latest single Move On With My Life. There are two versions to the song: a reggae and techno/club remix which are currently being rotated on the local airwaves.

Andru is currently in England doing promotions for the song.

Born Andrew Stewart, he migrated to Curacao in the late 1990s. He later joined a band called Goldie Locks and made his debut recording with Gusta Paca (This Little Girl Love Money) which became a hit in Aruba. Subsequent releases included Everybody’s Irish.

Currently residing in the US, Andru is signed to Uniti Records, an independent label which he co-owns. His soon-to-be-released 16-track album is titled RelationShift.

Chart Updates

The rock group Foo Fighters take control of the Billboard 200 this week as Wasting Light debuts at number one with 235,000 copies. Over on the UK album chart, the Foo Fighters take the lead removing Adele from her 11-week perch at number one with the album 21.

Rihanna scores her 10th number one Hot 100 single this week as S&M, which was banned in some countries, takes over the hot seat from Katy Perry and Kanye West’s ET. Rihanna scored her first number one single in May of 2006 with SOS. She still has a bit of catching up to do, as Mariah Carey leads the pack of solo female artistes with the most number one singles on the Billboard Hot 100. She has 18 to date.

Lady Gaga’s Judas roars onto the Billboard Hot 100 at number ten. It was expected to be a ding dong battle between Gaga and Rihanna for the number one spot, but we already know who emerged the champ.
