Lustah: seeking to make his musical mark
“THE difference between a good song and a great song is bravery… bravery to truly venture into your own creative mind and allow yourself, not only to unlock real creativity, but then to be able to utilise it fully and completely without inhibition,” says Most Wanted Records founder and singjay Lustah.
Born and raised in Montego Bay, Lustah, whose birth name is Basil Waite, says it was reggae icon Bob Marley who influenced his passion for reggae music. The young singjay told the Observer that his love for music led him not to limit himself to reggae but to cross over into hip hop and other musical genres.
“I am fascinated with the melodies and emotions that other cultures highlight, and has broadened my musical taste to cover everything from rock to dancehall” the well-spoken entertainer said.
Approximately two years ago, Lustah released his first single Sayonara. Today the singjay’s voice frequently permeates the local and international airwaves with singles such as Club Star, She Wants Love, and The Creator.
Lustah, a past student of Herbert Morrison Technical High, who now calls the United States home, says he is grateful to have performed in several US cities, Canada and sections of Europe. Having shared stage with artistes such as Tarrus Riley Bounty Killer, Mavado, Duane Stephenson, Dean Fraser, Ravon, Red Fox, Squeechie Dan and others, Lustah says his musical journey is just beginning.
“I have no doubt that like many other great artistes my name and music will be fresh in the minds of many, decades from now. I will become a musical legend,” he firmly stated.
What’s next for Lustah? The artiste is working on singles to be released later this year and even anticipating a collaboration with a popular dancehall artiste. The young musican is also in the process of enrolling new talent to his Most Wanted Record Label.
For aspiring entertainers Lustah’s words of encouragement are that “Hard work and dedication will always pay off if you harvest positive energies and interject this energy into the foundation and body of every step that you make to attain your goals success is unalterable”.
With this driven force he maintains accompanied with the correct musical attitude Lustah is definitely heading towards stardom.
