Slain family of four to be buried today
HUNDREDS of mourners are expected to cram themseves into the small Seventh Day Adventist Church on Milford Road in Ocho Rios today to pay their last respects to the four family members gunned down by Detective Corporal Wayne Llewellyn in Three Hills, St Mary, last month.
Those to be buried are 79-year-old Rachel Brown (Llewellyn’s mother-in-law); her husband, 73-year-old Voldy Brown (Llewellyn’s father-in-law), Fitzroy Townsend (Llewellyn’s brother-in-law); and 16-year-old Jorgihan Flynn (Llewellyn’s stepdaughter).
Pastor Karl Archer, President of the SDA North Jamaica Conference says while the church can accommodate approximately 400 – 500 persons, he expects a much larger turnout.
“It is not the largest of churches, but the family is the one who have made that decision,” he explains. “When it comes to these things we let the family decide on what they want.”
Archer says at one point, a tent, which can accommodate an additional 800 persons, and which has been erected about 600 metres from the Milford Road SDA, was offered for use but the family opted against it.
“I know the church will not be able to accommodate the number of individuals we are expecting inside, but we are just working with the family. They are the ones planning it. They did not ask us to arrange it for them,” Archer said.
Llewellyn reportedly killed the four with his service pistol after gaining access to the home of his estranged wife’s parents in Three Hills through a back door early on the morning of April 7. His mother and father-in-law, who were still in their bedroom, were the first victims of his bloody rampage. His brother-in-law ran on seeing him, but was also shot dead. It is believed that Corporal Llewellyn then entered Jorgihan’s room and shot her, before shooting his wife in her room. The cop reportedly went a short distance away to where another set of family members reside, and demanded to be let in. However, those residents barricaded themselves inside. Llewellyn then reportedly shot himself.
His wife, 40-year-old Joanne, who lost her only child in the attack, was shot in the neck and survived, however, she is paralysed.
Reports are that Llewellyn was recently transferred from St Mary to Manchester, and that his wife and stepdaughter went with him. It is said that his wife and stepdaughter returned to St Mary after the couple’s relationship went awry.
Along with Archer, other officiating ministers at today’s thanksgiving service are Pastors Nathanael Gracia, Arlington Woodburn and Chakudi Okike. The main speaker will be Reverend Glen Samuels.
The Sunday Observer has received information that Llewellyn will be buried at the same church on May 8, however funeral arrangments for him have reportedly not yet been concluded.
