Seba score crucial win in Premier League qualifiers
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Seba United revived their hopes of taking one of the two qualifying places for next season’s Digicel Premier League after they beat Rivoli 1-0 at Jarrett Park on Sunday.
Kemar James’ first half goal was enough to give the former champions their first win of the series after back-to-back come-form-behind 1-1 draws as they joined St Mary outfit Highgate on the top of the points tables with five points.
Highgate lead on goal difference after beating KSAFA champions Cavalier FC 2-0 in Kingston earlier on Sunday as Cavalier stayed on four points, while Rivoli remain at the bottom on with one point.
James, who was left out of the starting line-up on Wednesday against Highgate by interim coach Omar ‘Sleepy’ Clarke, scored the lone goal in the 34th minute in what was a drab game played in a constant heavy drizzle.
Clarke took over the reigns of the Western Confederation Super league champions after Peruvian coach Danilo Barriga, who guided them through the season, walked out on the team earlier last week after a reported training ground disagreement with players over tactics.
The return-round will start tomorrow with Seba facing Cavalier at Jarrett Park and Rivoli hosting Highgate at Prison Oval.
