Mediators trained in Westmoreland
Savanna-la-Mar, WESTMORELAND – THE Dispute Resolution Foundation last Saturday certified 24 mediators drawn from the parish of Westmoreland, at a ceremony held at the Hotel Commingles in Savanna-la-Mar.
The mediators were trained at a five -day seminar, conducted by Paul Hines, Senior Trainer at the foundation.
They were selected from various organisations including churches, the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), Resident Magistrates Court Offices, Justices of the Peace and the business sector.
Funding for the training was provided by the European Union (EU).
Custos of Westmoreland, Owen Sinclair, encouraged participants to impart their knowledge to others and to put what they had learnt into practice.
Hines urged persons with disputes to use the service of the mediators to settle their differences.
He also called on the media, churches and other organisations to assist in sensitising the public about the importance of mediation and how to find competent mediators in each parish.
