Boys’ Town claim Under-20 crown
TWO goals from captain and national Under-20 midfielder Jamiel Hardware carried Boys’ Town to a 3-1 win over Trench Town rivals Arnett Gardens in the final of the Claro/KSAFA Under-20 competition at the Edward Seaga Complex yesterday.
Hardware netted in the 65th and 83rd minutes, adding to Jamie Robinson’s exquisite 45th-minute strike.
Romario Bigsby scored Arnett’s consolation six minutes from time.
The game lived up to its billing as the old foes went at it from the opening whistle, with both teams creating good chances to go ahead.
However, just before the break Robinson put the ‘Red Brigade’ in front when he picked up the ball in midfield, and from about 30 yards, beat Brian Headlam with a delicate chip that came of the crossbar and into the goal.
After the interval, Arnett launched a series of raids, but found the Adaino Hamilton-marshalled defence and goalkeeper Marlon Murphy up to the challenge.
Fabian Reid had two great chances that he could not take advantage of, however, Andrew Allen had the best chance to grab an equaliser when he was played through on goal, but he placed his effort wide of the target from six yards.
Boys’ Town also went on the offensive and had some good opportunities to extend their lead, and they eventually got the break when Vishnual Harris was brought down inside the box by Al Nesbeth.
Hardware then calmly dispatched the resulting spot-kick to put Boys’ Town 2-0 up.
However, Arnett refused to surrender and kept searching for a goal to revive their hopes, but Harware killed the game off when he nodded home Harris’ cross in the 83rd minute for a 3-0 scoreline.
Boys’ Town’s coach Perry Bartley said his team came mentally ready for the match and their execution was perfect.
“There were enthused after they won the game (semis) against Harbour View, which was a very tough game… they said that no team that beat them before can beat them again and they came out and showed that,” he said.
Arnett Gardens coach Byron Earle said indiscipline caused his team the title.
“We created a lot of chances, but once you do not have discipline, you cannot win championships,” he said.
