Real Santa capture St Elizabeth Division One crown
Real Santa are still celebrating after they defeated Middlesex Youth Club 2-1 recently to capture the 2010-2011 St Elizabeth FA, S E Sports World Division One Football competition.
The Oscar Bailey-coached Santa Cruz-based team got the better of the Andrew Ellison-coached team in the rain affected final played at the Lacovia Community Centre before a small partisan group of fans.
Odane Mendez opened the scoring in the 20th minute of play and Hylton Pike scored the other in the 38th minute. Real Santa, who had lost only one game throughout the season, failed to push on as they squandered numerous goal scoring chances.
The slippery condition prevented the players from showing their true potential, however, Middlesex came back into the game and it was not until the 75th minute that Damion Smith got the consolation goal for team.
The hard-fought final was not without its usual rough playing which forced referee Silton Burnett to caution four players for unsporting behaviour.
Mervyn Salmon and Mendez of Santa were shown the yellow card in the second and 61st minutes, while Comar Hylton in the 37th and Dwayne Bramwell in the 70th were also booked.
Both teams will now advance to parish Division One competition scheduled to get under way next season.
