GEORGETOWN, Guyana (CMC) — Chris Gayle is one of several West Indies players set to appear in a privately-organised Twenty20 competition to be staged on August 12 and 14 at the Guyana National Stadium.

The explosive left-handed opener, whose recent omission from the West Indies team prompted outrage around the Caribbean, will be part of a side called Hits & Jams which will take part in the four day/night matches.

The Georgetown Pitbulls, defending local national T20 champions Berbice, and New Line Cavaliers are the other sides in the competition.

Each team is allowed three International players, and the dynamic Gayle, who played for the New Line Cavaliers when he last played a local competition in Guyana, will this time line-up for Hits & Jams in a side that also includes fellow Jamaicans Danza Hyatt, Andre Russell and Krishmar Santokie.

Guyana captain and West Indies batsman Ramnaresh Sarwan will spearhead the Georgetown Pitbulls, whose side also includes Kieron Pollard, fellow Trinidad & Tobago all-rounder Navin Stewart, as well as Guyana national players Chris Barnwell and Leon Johnson.

The T&T pair of West Indies opener Lendl Simmons and all-rounder Rayad Emrit will hope to shine for the New Line Cavaliers, along with former Guyana batsman Andre Percival and national left-hander Gajanand Singh.

Berbice have declined the chance of overseas players, but they are still well-served by West Indies leg-spinner Davendra Bishoo, 2010 Caribbean T20 sensation Jonathon Foo, dashing national opener Richard Ramdeen, along with discarded West Indies batsmen Narsingh Deonarine and Sewnarine Chattergoon, as well as the Crandon brothers, Royston and Esuan.
