Act now, or the next victim could be you
Dear Editor,
The gruesome murders in the quiet community of Lauriston, St Catherine, have set a new low in our society. Are we once again returning to the wicked city of Port Royal where rogues, pirates and degenerates owned the town? Those pirates acted in a similar manner until an earthquake did them in – thank God.
Today, machete-wielding men are chopping or beheading people with impunity. It must be a wicked curse or societal plague upon our wonderful island. It seems these heartless creatures have decided on setting a new standard and a new low for Jamaica.
Mr Editor, I could not just listen and read about two women being butchered without making a public outcry. My heart goes out to their families and loved ones, but it weeps for my people and our nation.
The question which must now be answered is: Why do we not root out the dens of iniquity from where these devils emerge and attack our good people? Must we beat drums, pans, bells, and chase out the demons as written in the Bible?
This leads to the question: Where is the condemnation from PM Bruce Golding and Opposition Leader Portia Simpson Miller? What definitive action has the PSOJ taken? Is there only concern that “one of their own” got killed?
Are we going to sit idly by and let these killers act in the way things took place in Port Royal? Or are we going to come together as a country and say, “No more”? We must also not forget that some gangs align themselves with both the JLP and PNP, and the citizens of this beautiful country vote for them each time they go to the polls.
What is the Jamaica Council of Churches doing in the wake of these dastardly acts of violence against our women and children? Is the JCC calling on those politicians who align themselves with criminals to now draw the line between selfish, sinful hedonism and saving people, that is, patriotism? Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of their people, not their party!
Are we completely devoid of divine grace? Remember Jesus’ parable of both the whipping and chasing of the money changers, and later the fig tree which would never be prosperous or bear fruit. We need to act now.
The next beheading could be you or a loved one.
May God bless the souls of Joyette Lynch and her mother Charmaine Rattray. And may He, all the more, bless Jamaica to act and stop this evil immediately.
