Robert Ffrench releases throwback reggae hits
VETERAN artiste Robert Ffrench is set to release a collection of throwback reggae hits which he says is sure to thrill both local and international fans familiar with his chart-topping tracks of the 80’s and 90’s.
The soon-to-be-released collection is a follow up to the VP Records distributed album Yesterday & Tomorrow. With countless hits under his belt, the veteran artiste’s latest album features a long list of the hit songs throughout his career. Among the tracks present are chart toppers such as the gold and platinum selling Bun n’ Cheese and the huge international 80s hit Ruff & Tuff, a song sampled many times over by sound systems worldwide in sound clashes and battles in their desire for dominance.
As the first volume to be released in a series showcasing Ffrench’s other successes, the release is one, which according to the artiste, will not only reignite the memories of the past, but also appeal to new listeners as each song displays the timeless and universal sounds of reggae, delivered by a voice synonymous with it.
In Ffrench’s own words, the intention is “to bring back the love from the people and to introduce the young ones to the classic sounds.”
Other featured songs such as On the Dancefloor, have resulted in success for not only Ffrench, but for American R&B vocal group Force MDs and fellow reggae success Beres Hammond, both of whom covered Ffrench’s song in recognition of its success and their own appreciation. Hammond also acts as co-writer on another featured track, Too Young; one which was released in the US in the early 90’s and met with accolades.
The artiste adds, “Listen for a sound distinctly reggae and distinctly Robert Ffrench and as simplified by the artiste himself, listen for an understanding of where he’s been and where he’s going.”
