FLIPtop giveaway
LIME Jamaica’s managing Director Garry Sinclair presents a “FLIPtop” computer to J’Neil Green, the top female awardee in the 2011 GSAT Examinations. LIME Jamaica has introduced a low-cost laptop as part of its drive to increase Internet penetration. The laptop, which is dubbed the FLIPtop and which is priced at $14,999, has a 13.3 inch screen and has one gigabyte (GB) RAM memory, a 160 GB hard drive, and a 1.3 mega pixel, Skype-ready camera and comes with the Windows 7 OS. Recent survey findings from the Mona School of Business at the University of the West Indies have confirmed that consumers continually site the high cost of computers and other access devices as the main barrier to Internet access. Sinclair said that “when we considered that what often blocks access to the Internet for consumers is the affordability of the access device we decided to help to remove this barrier and give more people a chance to get online”. The FLIPtop will be made available to new subscribers who sign up for a two-year Internet package.
