Fun and games for Port Royal Seafood festival
The seaside town of Port Royal is expected to come alive this National Heroes Day, October 17, with the staging of the Port Royal Seafood Festival.
Some of Jamaica’s top entertainers including Tifa and Assassin are billed to appear on the show which plays its part in giving back to the community in which it is held.
Organisers, sponsors and supporters gathered at the Morgan’s Harbour Hotel recently for the launch of this year’s festival which according to executive producer, Jennifer ‘Jenny Jenny’ Small, promises to be the best staging yet.
One of this year’s features is that children under 12-years will enter the event free of cost.
Small also announced that proceeds from the event will continue to go towards various projects in Port Royal.
In speaking on behalf of sponsor Digicel, Tahnida Nunes noted that the telecommunications firm has been sponsoring the Port Royal Seafood Festival since 2009 and enjoys being a part of what this festival celebrates — the life, food and culture of the people.
“These are the events that help us to further connect with our customers in their own communities as we remain committed to preserving our culture and rich heritage. We applaud the promoters of this event for organizing this community festival that not only gives patrons a ‘taste’ of the sea but which also provides great economic value for the community and its residents,” she noted.
The festival, which is in its eighth year is known for attracting over 6000 patrons annually, and this year promises to serve up a fun-filled day of activities, delectable seafood dishes coupled with an exciting entertainment lineup, offering the perfect mix of seafood and entertainment for the family to enjoy.
The Port Royal Seafood Festival takes place on Heroes Day, Monday; October 17, 2011 at the Port Royal Football Field.
