Hodges on target for Vietnamese team

TWENTY-SEVEN-YEAR-OLD Devon Hodges, with 10 caps and two goals for the Reggae Boyz, notched his first goal of the season for Dong Thap on Sunday in the Vietnamese Super League.

Hodges, who was in the starting line-up in two of his four matches (including this one), netted in the 31st minute in Dong Thap’s 3-1 win over NB Sai Gon at the Cao Lanh Stadium.

His teammate Felix Ajala, a Nigerian, scored a brace (26th and 68th minutes) to become the top marksman of the Super League with six goals.

Dong Thap have moved up to fifth place in the Super League with eight points from five matches, trailing leaders Ha Noi TT (13 points), Sai Gon (11 points), Ninh Binh (10 points), and Da Nang (eight points).

Hodges, an ace striker for Rivoli United for six years before playing a season for Tivoli Gardens, scored nine goals for defending Vietnamese champions Song Lam Nghe An last season.

He has not played for the Reggae Boyz since 2010. The St Ann native led Jamaica to a 1-0 win over St Kitts & Nevis in a friendly on August 16, 2009 in Basseterre when he scored in the 55th minute.

Hodges, who also had a stint with Wadadah, also scored for the Reggae Boyz in 3-2 win over Panama in a friendly on June 6, 2009 at the National Stadium.

Dong Thap will play away to Ha Noi (second from bottom in the 14-team league) on Sunday at the Hang Day Stadium in Hanoi at 4:10 am Jamaican time.
