‘This is the worst thing that could happen for Father’s Day’
HOMICIDE detectives were up to late yesterday carrying out their investigation into the shooting death of Duhaney Park resident Ryan Edwards. The police reported that the 37-year-old man was attacked and shot dead by gunmen while he stood at the intersection of Duhaney Drive and Baldwin Crescent, Kingston.
“At about 6:00 am police were alerted by residents who heard gunshots in the area,” said a police officer on the crime scene.
The death of the community man yesterday left scores of residents in shock as family members gathered and wept at the scene where the body was found.
The incident was particularly painful for father of the victim, Errol Edwards, who said he had no idea that when he spoke to his eldest son on Monday that it would be the last time he would hear from him.
“On Monday we spoke and I told him I was looking a ‘mek-up’ (financial help) to fix me car and he told me that he would contact me in a few hours but the call never came,” said the distraught father.
According to the senior Edwards, it was a frantic call from a man yesterday morning, informing him that his son was killed that brought back memories of the conversation the night before. The death, he said, has shattered his plans to celebrate Father’s Day on June 17.
“This is the worst thing that could happen for Father’s Day,” Edwards said as he fought hard to hold back tears.
Residents in the community said that the younger Edwards was taking his regular early morning walk with his dog when he was attacked.
Up to last night police were yet to determine a motive for the killing.
