Ground broken for playing field at Middlesex Corner Primary School
MIDDLESEX, Hanover – The 83-year-old Middlesex Corner Primary School in Hanover which has been operating without a playing field since it was established, was given a major boost last week, when ground was broken for the creation of the facility at the school.
Speaking at the brief ground breaking ceremony on the school grounds last Thursday, Member of Parliament for the area Ian Hayles told the gathering that work on the project — which is expected to cost $2 million — will begin within two weeks and should be complete in time for the start of the next school year.
“I know you have waited a very long time. But your wait won’t be much longer, because I, as your member of parliament, is ensuring that you are going to have a playing field,” Hayles told the students in attendance at the ceremony.
Funding for the project is being provided from the Member of Parliament Constituency Development Fund (CDF).
Meanwhile, Principal at the school Claudette Dixon noted that the absence of a playing field has hindered the institution’s sports programme, as she thanked MP Hayles for his assistance.
Councillor for the Lucea Division Neville Claire also lauded the MP for providing the funds for the facility, describing it as a “good gesture that will enhance learning at the school.”
