Ja bump heads with British U-23s in second Test
Jamaica ‘A’ will tackle the British Amateur Rugby League Association (BARLA) Under-23 team in the second and final of their two-Test series this afternoon at 3:00 at the GC Foster College.
The Britons won the first Test 54-10 last Saturday at the Mona Bowl, University of the West Indies, and will face a more determined Jamaica this time around.
“I am expecting a tough match…. and am hopeful that our troops can decrease the gap between the teams,” said coach Romeo Monteith.
“We are going all out to challenge Great Britain because we believe we can be more competitive. They clearly have a superior skill set and game knowledge and we have learnt a lot from them. We would absolutely enjoy sending them off to England with at least one defeat,” added Monteith.
The young Britons, on a 12-day tour of Jamaica, defeated a Jamaica Intercollegiate All-Stars team 70-10 last Wednesday. Their coaching staff conducted clinics at Naggos Head and Bridgeport Primary Schools.
Jamaica Rugby League Association chairman, Ventley Brown, said he was happy with the interest Jamaicans had been taking in one of the world’s most physically demanding sport.
“We have had over a thousand fans attend the two games. Everyone loves the sport and and wants to see more games played,” he said.
