TIMOTHY Wynter sped to a new meet record in the Boys 15-17 100m backstroke on Sunday when he clocked 58.44 seconds for gold at the XIX Caribbean Islands Swimming Championships (CISC) in Savaneta, Aruba.

Wynter broke Nicholas Bovell of Trinidad & Tobago’s previous meet record of 58.52 set eight years ago.

Suriname’s Diguan Pigot placed second in 59.62, with Jordan Augier of St Lucia taking bronze in 1:01.48.

Breanna Roman swam 2:10.84 for silver in the Girls 15-17 200m freestyle. Daniella van den Berg of Aruba won in 2:10.06, while Bermudan Ashley Yearwood took bronze in 2:10.96.

Roman raked in another silver in the Girls 15-17 200m breaststroke, after timing 2:42.65. Trinidadian Alexander Donahue registered 2:24.44 for gold, with Surinamese Evita Leter third in 2:51.02.

In the Girls 11-12 400m freestyle relay, Angara Sinclair, Tiara Myrie, Annabella Lyn, and Annastazia Chin clocked 4:18.42 for silver. Aruba won in 4:16.90, with Barbados third in 4:23.21.

Meanwhile, Alexia Royal-Eatmon finished third in the Girls 15-17 100m backstroke in 1:08.21. Kimberlee John Williams of Trinidad & Tobago captured gold in 1:05.94, beating Bahamian Bria Deveaux (1:0.54).

Dominic Walter also took bronze in the Boys 18 & Over 200m freestyle after posting 1:59.05. Dominica Republic’s Radhames Kalaff won in 1:56.49, ahead of Trinidad & Tobago’s Levar Goossen (1:58.74).

In the Boys 18 & Over 100m backstroke, Ramon Walton swam 1:00.40 for third, trailing winner Trinidad & Tobago’s Carlyle Blondell, 58.97 seconds, and second-placed Jean Luis Gomez of Dominican Republic who timed 59.17 seconds.

Annabella Lyn placed third in the Girls 11-12 200m butterfly after recording 2:42.73. Barbadian Kendi Bynoe won in 2:39.09, ahead of Trinidadian Arielle Downes, 2:42.68.

In the Girls 11-12 200m breaststroke, Annastazia Chin touched for third in a time of 3:02.18. Bahamian Margaret Higgs won in a time of 2:54.37, ahead of Aruban Junice Martin, 3:00.08.

Jamaica’s medal tally jumped to 16 at the end of day two of the championships on Sunday, comprising three gold, five silver and seven bronze medals.
